Flaxseed Gel Recipe

21 May

Candice writes:

Decided to try my hand at making my own flaxseed gel and the results were great. Here is the list of ingredients and the steps used to create this natural hair gel:
Things you will need:
1 container of Golden Flaxseed
1 pot
Stocking ( knee high)
Mixing bowl
Measuring cup
Aloe vera gel
You may also use the following oils: castor, jojoba, olive, coconut, almond
Essential oils such as: lavender, tea tree,
Step 1: Bring 2 cups of water and 1/2 cup of flaxseed to a boil on medium heat. Be sure to stir the mixture often. When you see the white froth forming on top of the mixture, turn the heat off and continue to stir for about 5 more minutes.
Step 2: U will want to stretch the stocking in order to pour the mixture into it. Do this while holding the stocking over your strainer to catch the seeds. Allow the gel to drain into your mixing bowl. U will need a pair of tongs to squeeze and force the gel from the stocking into the bowl.
Step 3: Once you have drained all the gel possible from the seeds into the mixing bowl, you now begin adding your oils. I added 1 teaspoon of each oil to the gel and 1 tablespoon of aloe vera. I then added about 8 drops of lavender oil for scent and about 3 drops of tea tree oil ( use your own discretion as to what essential oils you would like to add).
Step 4: Mix ingredients well with a wire wisk or spoon. Refrigerate mixture for about 5 to 10 minutes to allow it to set.
Enjoy your natural flaxseed gel! It can be used on wash and go styles as well as twists and twist-outs. You may want to keep your gel in a cool, dry place. Also, you can save the flaxseed you used for the next batch after you run out of gel.

What’s In Your Spray Bottle?

30 Mar

Recently I have been experimenting with a lot of different spray bottle combinations. I’ve also been looking online for new recipes. Some people use plain water, and some use mixtures involving several different ingredients. I usually keep a few different bottles so that I can have different mixtures. What’s in your spray bottle?
