Featured Business: The Barefruit Co.

10 May

Tasha writes:

My name is Tasha Goss and I am the owner and creator of The Barefruit Co.
The Barefruit Co. is headquartered in Columbus, OH. We specialize in
organic hair care and skin care. What makes our collection unique is that
you are able to customize our products specifically for your hair and skin
type. We are cruelty free, organic and we don’t use harsh additives such
as sulfates, petroleum or mineral oils.

I started The Barefruit Co. back in 2009. I have been natural for almost 4
years and I must say that my journey has been the inspiration behind
starting my own collection. I have 4b-4a hair type (yes, in THAT order!)
and I had such a difficult time trying to find products that actually
worked for my hair. I began making the Coco Shea Hair Butter and from
there, the Hair Care collection was launched!

We started off at home parties. I would make a beezwax based body pomade
and give it way for free to the attendees. As the product matured, the
demand increased. We now have customers in the US and abroad and have
created customized products on a larger scale for large corporations to
hand out at their functions.

Lola’s Green Hair- Where You Can Buy and Sell Hair Products

28 Jan

I’m sure that this site will be very popular soon. Please pass this on to all of your product junkie friends. They can sell what they aren’t using anymore, and then use that money to get different products (You know they are going to buy more products anyway). This is also great if there are a few products you’ve been wanting to try. You may be able to find them at a lower price. The site makes it easy to find what you are looking for by having everything separated into categories such as stylers, accessories, etc… There is are several different brands being offered. You can also purchase jewelry. Read below to learn more about this site.

From Lola’s Green Hair website:

Lola’s Green Hair, the online listing service for new, nearly new and gently used hair care products, launches today.

The average woman has about 12 products in her vanity. Multiply that by the 100 million women over living in the U.S. alone and you have a perverse amount of packaging in our landfills. Catering to the budget-conscious, LolasGreenHair.com offers users the opportunity to buy and sell new, nearly new and gently used hair care products—and reduce their carbon footprint by consuming and wasting less. Unlike large auction and classified ads sites that offer everything from furniture to electronics, LolasGreenHair.com provides hair care aficionados a specific and unique, no-haggling environment. Buyers and sellers have a secure and efficient way to exchange discounted hair care products for all hair types, styles and needs.

LolasGreenHair.com represents the nexus of founder, Lola Zabeth’s, passion for all things hair, all things green, and all things frugal. Whether one wants to clean out the vanity cabinet and make a few bucks, buy quality products at a fraction of retail price, or simply enjoy the musings of much ado about everything—hair care enthusiasts and frugalistas alike will find an invaluable resource in LolasGreenHair.com.

Lola Zabeth says, “Although I am only one wee baby-toe in this large carbon footprint, I can still pamper my follicles and be environmentally responsible at the same time. LolasGreenHair.com saves some green, and keeps our environment a bit greener to boot.”

Visit Lola’s Green Hair today to find out more about this innovative approach to buying and selling hair care products. List items for FREE through March 2011.  Let your friends, family, readers and viewers know about this fabulous service!

Cheers to green hair~”

Product Review: Free Your Mane Line

14 Jan

The owner of Free Your Mane sent me full-sized bottles of the entire Free Your Mane line to try.  Here is a little background information about the company including how adopting twin African-American boys inspired the founder to begin the company:

“Most of the ethnic hair care products on the shelves were still were still composed primarily of cheap fillers, low quality ingredients such as petrolatum and mineral oil — basically the waste from the petroleum manufacturing industry.  Searching hard, I did find a few all-natural ‘kitchen’ remedies responding to the nascent green market. Sadly, these products were ineffective and overly fragranced. After three years of intensive research, development and testing, I am thrilled to announce the arrival of Free Your Maneä, a revolution in black hair care. The Free Your Mane product line has been developed for adult women of color whose needs, until now, have been summarily ignored by the beauty industry.

All Free Your Mane products blend the best of nature and science. We infuse Brilliant Baobab Oil,from Africa (which can hold up to eight times its weight in moisture!), with other beneficial oils for a modern, stylish and very lightly fragranced product. We ban mineral oil, petrolatum, sulfate, phthalates and parabens from our entire line so Free Your Mane doesn’t sacrifice your health for beauty’s sake.  Israel Segal- Founder”

7% of Free Your Mane’s profits go to it’s charitable organization, Se%en. You can find more information about that on their website.

Sulfate Free Shampoo 10.14oz ($15.95)/Daily Detangling Conditioner 10.14oz ($15.95)

The shampoo and conditioner are sulfate and paraben free. They both have a light musky scent that is great for a man or a woman. The shampoo did not make my hair feel stripped, and I only needed a small amount to get a good lather. The conditioner was creamy and moisturizing.

Intgensive Hydrating Hair Masque 8.45oz ($19.95)

I applied the hair masque and covered with a plastic cap. I left it on for about 45 minutes. When I took the cap off my hair was soft and really felt hydrated. The package states that you can heat the cap with a warm blow dryer or leave the masque on overnight to enhance results. I used this as my deep conditioner after my most recent Henna treatment.

Restorative Hair Oil 4.1oz ($24.95)

My first thought was that no oil is worth $25. I didn’t expect it to work any differently than other oil. I have to say that my hair felt very soft after using a little of this oil. My uncle tried a little, and he fell in love with it immediately. He got the same results of soft hair. Like the other products it contains argan oil and baobab oil. When I compared prices to other products that contain these ingredients, some were more expensive. Others were about the same. The container is small, but it could last because you don’t need to use much.

Reviving Spray 6.08oz ($14.95)

I used the reviving spray on an old braid-out to restyle my hair. Instead of wetting, I spritzed it with this spray and then styled. When I finished, my hair had a nice sheen and felt more moiturized. It also dried quicker than it does when I use water to reset it. The spray didn’t leave my hair feeling sticky or heavy.

Conditioning Pomade 4.10z. ($15.95)

I think this might be my favorite. It does not work like a gel. Because it’s a pomade, it is thicker and heavier. Unlike other pomades I’ve tried, my hair wasn’t greasy or dry after using it. It’s called a conditioning pomade, and it really left my hair feeling conditioned. A little of it goes a long way. I’ve used it to lay down the edges of my hair. I also used it on the ends of my twists. This is great for those times when you want a very sleek look. Thisgreat for special occasions when you don’t want to risk flyaways, frizz, or flakes.

Overall, I liked this line a lot. I’ve been using them for about a month. As I mentioned, the products have a light musk scent. So many lines have a floral feminine smell. I wonder what’s available for men who want products with great ingredients. Free Your Mane is a great unisex line. I didn’t have to use much of any of the products except the conditioner (I always use a lot of conditioner). This is a great line for those of you who are interested in trying argan oil.

Stay tuned for a giveaway sponsored by Free Your Mane!!
