what is a good detangler for natural hair?
I asked, and here were a few responses that I got:
Kinky Curly Knot Today (most highly recommended)
Oyin Honey Hemp Conditioner
Any conditioner
Carol’s Daughter
Just for Me 2 in 1 Kids Shampoo and Conditioner
I use whatever conditioner I am using which is usually Hello Hydration or Yes to Cucumbers/Carrots.
aloe vera juice and vegetable glycerin mix.. works wonders
Do you think it’s a good idea to mix vegetable glycerin with raw shea butter?
Your blog is very organized, thorough, and it is so easy to find what I want to look at. I love it.
Thanks
I really love your blog. It is very informative and organized. Keep up the good work.
Thank you so much, Bonita!
Id like to see where to buy each product(on the list) when I click on it.
I’ll think about that for next year’s Natural Hair Report Card.
I’ve been natural for about 4 years. I am about to starting swimming regularly. I have course, tightly coiled hair. Do you have any suggestions on Shampoos, Conditioners, and other products that may help my hair survive the constant exposure to Chlorine and other pool additives?
I pre wet my hair and cover it in conditioner before I go swimming. I shampoo and condition afterwards. I also deep condition more regularly if I am going into the chlorine.
Thank you. Any suggestions on conditioners, or will any one do? I might swim every other day.
Lawanda, any conditioner that already works well for you.
Hi,
Do you know of any place in the Atlanta area that sells hair accessories? Headbands, combs, pins, etc? Thanks!! Maya
BTW, I am referring places geared toward natural haircare. Artisan or handmade stuff. Not a Claire’s, Sally’s, etc.
I am a Networked Blogs follower, and I would like to win some henna)
I’ve been reading that glycerin is good to help retain moisture, do you know if it’s a good idea to mix it with raw shea butter. I’ve been thinking about making my own moisturizer with shea butter, a few oils and glycerin…any ideas or information would be greatly appreciated.
I’ve never mix the two, but that is worth trying. However, I would recommend using that mix in the warmer months. I read that it is important that water is involved in the mix when you are using glycerin in the winter.
Ok Thanks alot!
Hello!! After a year of being natural i am a little tired of home made shampoo and shopping around for a good shampoo. Do you have any suggestions on natural shampoos?? I’ve tried Carols daughter the rosemary shampoo but it didnt get my hair as clean as my lemon juice baking soda mixture. Any suggestions??
Check out this post: http://naturalreviewbyl.com/2010/12/29/natural-hair-report-card-top-10-shampoos/
It gives the favorite shampoos from a survey that I did a few months ago. Some of the shampoos on that list are natural. Also, Aubrey Organics has several different natural shampoos. They cost about $10 or $11.
I work out everyday and I sweat a lot!! Should I wash the sweat out of my hair by doing a co-wash in the middle of the week or should I still stick to wash once a week??
Thank you for your advice!
There are a few options. You could do the mid-week cowash like you suggested. I sometimes just do a water wash if I want my hair fresher in between regular washes. Also, you can look into a no-lather shampoo to cleanse your scalp in between. Organic Root Stimulator makes one called “Herbal Cleanse”.
I have been going natural for a year now, well a year in May and I am so apprehensive when it comes to which products to use because a lot of them are kind of expensive. Do you have any suggestions? I have heard that Aveda, Pantene, Treseme, and Mizani are pretty good. What do you think? I want my hair to have a curly texture without looking dry and dull or too nappy. Thank you! I really need help!!
I haven’t tried Aveda, Mizano, or Tresemme. I have used Pantene Relaxed and Natural before, it was okay.

Okay thank you and another question I have is: I love getting straw sets, they are amazing! But my hair begins to itch so bad and I never know what products to put on it so that my hair will stop itching and I can keep my set in longer. Any suggestions on anti-itch products?(I get the straw sets done at a salon, so it would have to be a product I could put on my hair while the straw set is already done on my hair)

Hi, L. I had emailed you some information during last week re:calls for submission on Twitter last week. Not sure if you had gotten it. Please let me know if you have as soon as you can.
I believe i have 4b/4c hair. And I was jus wondering, is it suppose to feel like a brisol pad when it’s not wet. I moisturize it daily especially during the summer with this cali heat, but maybe i’m not doing it enough.
Hi! I did the BC not too long ago. About 7 months to be exact. My hair is around 4A/4B and it is very thick. I am having difficulty retaining moisture because I can’t find the right kind of deep moisturizer. Do you have any suggestions as to what kind of moisturizer I should use or make because I’m lost, honestly.
Check out the Natural Hair Report Card posts. One specifically focuses on moisture aids.
Hi Jelecia, Pls use our Hair oil moisturizer. It is 95% natural. Uses vegetable glycerin, botanical renewable oils to add moisture to dry thirsty hair. The cost is $5 for an 8oz squeeze bottle. http://www.ayaricosmetics.com email: ayaricosmetics@aol.com

Hey, chica, can we get a contest that doesn’t require a Facebook account? You know, for all us dinosaurs? 😉
Yes. I was just thinking the same thing. LI just posted one today.
At work the other day ..some black women starting taunting me about my natural hair. Saying things like I need to get a perm. I felt horrible not because I am ashamed of my hair but because as black women they felt that their perms and weaves made them superior. I was embarrassed for them.
